Office Depot Director, Sr. Sales & Operations Planning in Boca Raton, Florida

Responsibilities:

The Sr. Director, Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) is accountable for determining the sales and operating plan (which includes sales, margin, and inventory) for corresponding Merchant categories. Owns open-to-buy for those categories. Collaborates closely with corresponding DMMs to determine category merchandising decisions (such as assortment and promotions) that optimize financial outcomes for assigned categories, based on rigorous financial, forecasting, and post-mortem analyses performed by Director's team. Manages team of Planners. Accountable for the continual success of the team including articulating vision, measuring and developing talent, and ensuring successful operation of teams. The Director collaborates across multiple departments outside of Merchandising, including Finance, Store Planning, and IT.

  • Manages a team of Planners (Analyst to Manager level) and provides leadership in the daily management and execution of the company's sales, margin, and inventory planning process for relevant set of categories. Team serves as single "source of truth" of category-level financial performance, forecasting, and analytics; reviews performance and identifies risks.

  • Determines sales and operating plan (which includes sales, margin, and inventory) and is responsible for setting and managing open-to-buy budget for relevant set of categories, ensuring that targets incorporate both company-level strategic initiatives and category-specific initiatives; reviews and approves forecasts and promotional plans for relevant set of categories

  • Define and manage process for running assortment, promotion, and other initiative analyses and post-mortems against key sales, margin, and inventory metrics; incorporate and communicate learnings to Merchants for assortment, promotions, and purchasing decisions

  • Collaborates closely with DMMs to manage financial performance risk within relevant categories:

  • Anticipates where performance will fall short of targets

  • Provides input on financial and operational tradeoffs of various merchandising decisions

  • Makes recommendation on SKU-level basis on decisions related to SKU additions, promotional activities, and end of life

  • Prioritize and delegate ad-hoc analyses to support strategic Merchant initiatives

  • Collaborate with appropriate planning representatives at key vendors to create mutually agreed upon purchasing plans

  • Lead continuous improvement of Planning processes to ensure ongoing effectiveness and efficiency, (i.e. develop and implement process and system improvements to drive at shedding transactional/ lower value work through the better use of tools and systems)Lead continuous improvement of Planning processes to ensure ongoing effectiveness and efficiency, (i.e. develop and implement process and system improvements to drive at shedding transactional/ lower value work through the better use of tools and systems)

  • Proactively identify training needs across the Planning organization; with Talent, develop and implement trainings

  • Actively coach, develop and provide performance feedback/actions to managers, associates and support staff. Drives talent development strategies including Succession Planning, Talent Gap Analysis, and career development processes

  • Develop strategies with the Merchant team to improve retail turns while protecting margin

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, or Finance

  • Minimum 10 years experience in related field; Planning, Finance, Inventory Management, Purchasing, Merchandising. Previous managerial experience in Planning preferred
