Office Depot Manager, Sr. Sales & Operations Planning in Boca Raton, Florida

Responsibilities:

The Sr. Manager, Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) is accountable for recommending the sales and operating plan (which includes sales, margin, and inventory) for corresponding Merchant category. Manages open-to-buy for those categories. The objective of this position is to provide the rigorous analytical, forecasting, and financial inputs to drive informed merchandising decision-making towards achievement of financial targets, including post-mortem analyses on assortment, promotions, and other initiatives. Collaborates closely with corresponding Merchant (SCM/CM) to determine category merchandising decisions (assortment, promotions, etc.) that optimize financial outcomes for assigned categories. May manage a team of Planning Analysts that perform supporting analyses, depending on size and complexity of category. Accountable for measuring and developing talent and ensuring successful operation of teams.

  • Recommends sales and operating plan (which includes sales, margin, and inventory) and open-to-buy budget for relevant set of categories; decision made by Planning Director

  • Reviews and tracks weekly financial performance and adherence to open-to-buy for relevant categories; generates financial performance forecasts and identifies performance risks

  • Collaborates closely with Merchants to manage financial performance risk within relevant categories:

  • Anticipates where performance will fall short of targets

  • Provides input on financial and operational tradeoffs of various merchandising decisions

  • Makes recommendation on SKU-level basis on decisions related to SKU additions, promotional activities, and end of life

  • Analyzes historical data to estimate financial impact of assortment decisions and inform pricing, promotion, and other category features

  • Performs post-mortems on assortments, promotions, and other initiatives against key sales, margin, and inventory metrics; incorporate and communicate learnings to Merchants for assortment, promotions, and purchasing decisions

  • Perform ad-hoc analyses to support strategic Merchant initiatives

  • If relevant (depending on size and complexity of category), manages team of Analysts that assists in supporting analyses and forecasts

  • Collaborate with appropriate planning reps at key vendors to create mutually agreed upon purchasing plans

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Planning processes to ensure ongoing effectiveness and efficiency, (i.e. recommend process and system improvements to drive at shedding transactional/ lower value work through the better use of tools and systems.)

  • Actively coach, develop and provide performance feedback/actions to analysts, associates and support staff. Drives talent development strategies including Succession Planning, Talent Gap Analysis, and career development processes

  • The development of strategies with the Merchant to improve retail turns within category while protecting margin

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Supply Chain Management, Business Management or Finance

  • Minimum 7 years experience in related field; Planning, finance, inventory management, purchasing, merchandising. Previous managerial experience in Planning preferred

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other groups to influence and drive decision-making and action

  • Experience with JDA, Optumera, Oracle, or any other forecasting package (preferred)

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Access & Word (required)
