The HCA IRL Laboratory Service organization is responsible for establishing and executing a clinical laboratory strategy to support achievement of overall HCA clinical initiatives as well as the ongoing management of hospital-based and centralized independent laboratory operations, management of outsourced laboratory arrangements, and meeting the service delivery needs of HCA hospitals, surgery centers, and commercial accounts in designated markets.

The IRL Chief Medical Officer is responsible for all clinical and quality initiatives in the company. Proactively and collaboratively promotes appropriate, high quality, and cost effective diagnostic laboratory services by leading or guiding interactions with clients, medical staff, administrative leadership, pathologists and other division and corporate leadership and staff. This position reports to the IRL CEO and leads in concert with IRL and division leadership, enterprise wide quality initiatives for laboratories managed by IRL. The IRL CMO works with HCA Clinical Services Group on matters of quality, utilization, patient safety and clinical effectiveness. The IRL CMO works closely with IRL management and is a core member of the IRL leadership team. This position is responsible for clinical and quality initiatives that support the provision of consistent clinical performance and practice standards across the HCA facilities served by IRL. The position reviews IRL facility quality performance with leadership, facilitates, and identifies quality performance and prioritization of improvement opportunities. Also provides leadership and expertise for quality and clinical effectiveness in the areas of infection control, risk management, patient safety, process improvement, standardization and laboratory utilization to ensure the collaboration and coordination of all stakeholders in these processes. Provides specialized focus on laboratory formulary development and appropriate test utilization in order to move the clinical agenda forward. The IRL Chief Medical Officer is responsible for all clinical and quality initiatives in IRL and proactively and collaboratively promotes effective, high quality, cost effective medical care by leading or guiding interactions stakeholders.

_Major Responsibilities:_ * Leading clinical performance expectations that support the goals of consistent clinical performance and practice standards to ensure superior clinical outcomes and unparalleled patient experience * Work closely with IRL leadership to manage and implement medically sound, effective, uniform laboratory services. * Creating an environment of quality and cost improvement that is data driven and develops systems to review utilization of resources and objectively measure outcomes of care in the inpatient and outpatient settings. * Oversees and guides the clinical and laboratory oversight activities of IRL Pathology Services medical leaders to ensure appropriate engagement, alignment, and consistency in the delivery of services to facilities served. * Works collaboratively with IRL Pathology Services leadership to establish, monitor and address pre-analytical pathology sample management, processes and protocols influencing the quality of technical histology services. * Serves as a direct liaison between HCA affiliated physicians and IRL clinical services functions. * Serves as a consultant to the CEO on clinical and anatomic pathology contracts including monitoring for quality and service, regulatory compliance, clinical consultation, pricing. Contributes to decisions regarding the insourcing and outsourcing of diagnostics tests and associated business case preparation. * Serving as spokesperson to HCA hospitals and affiliated physicians to explain and obtain buy in for, corporate, group, and division, sponsored laboratory related clinical initiatives. * Collaborating on a day-to-day basis with other facility, division, and corporate Chief Medical Officers. #LI-MD2

_Education and Experience:_ * Licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the State of Florida as an Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) – Required * Board Certified - Required * 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting - Required * Clinical fellowship - Preferred * Master’s degree in business or related field – Preferred * Coursework in management and business - Preferred * Experience as a CMO (or equivalent) in a large, complex hospital or regional health system with strong focus on clinical utilization – Preferred
